Shownotes:

Hello again, Welcome to Ourtech Technology Podcast - Episode 7 "Where basic information comes easy". I couldn't do a podcast for the last few weeks due to my work and travelling, but rest assured that I am and will try my best to give you the best in technology news. In this podcast w'll be talking on various topics eg: Blu-ray and HD DVD in tech speak and ofcourse there's gadgets n tools and oven fresh news. Also there's a special segment on why FINDING NEMO is a great movie.

What has got me to talk about Finding Nemo is “Making of finding Nemo” which is included in the DVD. Not that I haven’t watched making of any other animation movie earlier, but I would like to use this movie as a reference point.
After watching the making of this movie you just do nothing but keep your jaw open and admire. After 3 years of research, planning, execution stuffed in a bag of dedication, focus, hardwork these guys give us a film with a simple story with technical brilliance. I am calling it simple because this movie manages to touch the strings of our hearts somewhere deep down and also manages to bring a smile on your face and at the same time takes a person from 6 to 60 for a long virtual swim of 1 hour 40 minutes ……oh yes without getting tired!!
For more please listen to the podcast......

1 ) Tech Speak:

Blu-ray & HD-DVD

This year is of 2 new high def DVD formats Blu-ray v/s HD-DVD. Years ago there were 2 formats to choose from Beta and VHS. These two new DVD formats are next generation optical media formats which will hold tons of high definition video or to store any other data. In the podcast we’ll be discussing the specs like how much data it stores, compatibility issues, Cost etc. Interestingly lot of DVD movie titles are already available on HD-DVD and Blu-ray formats. Infact I wanted to put up this podcast on 25th June, the day Blu-ray DVD players were out. HD-DVD players were out much before Blu-ray players in the market - Toshiba's HD-XA1 and HD-A1 selling at $800 and $500 repectively. Samsung has shipped out its first Blu-ray player BPD-P1000 on 25th June which will sell for $1000.

Movie titles on HD-DVD:
Syriana
Lethal Weapon
The Rundown
Happy Gilmore
16 Blocks
The Perfect Storm
The Chronicles of Riddick
Constantine

Movie titles on Blu-Ray:
Saw
Hitch
Lord of War
The Terminator
Crash
Underworld: Evolution
50 First Dates

2) Gadgets and tools:

pbwiki is a simple website to make your own wiki page.Your own page where you can plan a project, plan a trip, research any projects etc. There are templates for you to get started. Keep it private or public. If you keep your page public, it means you can invite people to edit your page with password given to them.

Boompa and Riya are two websites which need a mention for it's business and for their owner’s effort and time to document the process needed to kickstart a startup company. It’s a interesting read for all the newbies who wish to start a new company. It’s sad to see some people critising the efforts in their comments section. Fine it’s a free world, say what you want, but don't criticize someone in a harsh way who takes efforts to do something positive. Every individual has a different way of doing things. If you don’t accept it, fine say it, but don’t pull a person down.

Boompa is a web startup by founders, Ethan Lance and Dave Snider. Previously worked together at CNET before starting this company. This website is basically for car fanatics but with a difference. Users enter information on cars they own or want to own. Other users can tag and comment the vehicle, and contact the owner and/or add him or her as a friend.

Riya is a photo search and facial recognition site is now about two months old. It will be a “visual search engine” - give Riya an image and it will return image results that are similar to the image you submit from across the web. A very good effort by it’s founder Mr Munjal Shah.

3) Oven Fresh news:

A)The device which I am mentioning here doesn’t replace eyes in any ways, but it’s a device which blind people could be using down the years. It’s a device which reads out to blind people. The person just has to hold the device over any printed matter and click a picture and in seconds a synthetic voice reads out the matter. The device, combining a personal digital assistant and a digital camera, is developed by inventor Ray Kurzweil and the membership organization of more than 50,000 blind people. It’s about the size of a paperback book, which is a portable device carried with ease. It’s expected to be launched shortly and should be available on internet and in stores for around $3500.( which is very expensive for a common man and hopefully would be available for lower price!!!!)

B)X-Seed 4000 is a proposed skyscraper that looks oddly like Mt. Fuji. Perhaps it’s unsurprising that it could be eventually built in Tokyo, Japan. The tallest building ever fully designed, the X-Seed 4000 would house between 500,000 and 1,000,000 people. The X-Seed 4000, which would be 4,000 meters high (13,123.2 feet), would in fact be taller than Mt. Fuji, which is merely 3776 meters high (12,388 ft). The proposed structure would have a base of 6 km and contain 800 floors. Designed by Taisei Construction Corporation, this mountain-shaped living environment would be powered by solar power and blend together high living with natural surroundings.

C)There’s news that Apple is introducing a new video-ipod which Apple has delayed after the company encountered problems with the display and touch-screen interface.Apple was to deliver this innovative ipod on it’s 30th birthday anniversary. This ipod has wide-screen display with the entire front of the iPod with a touch screen interface that is being billed by Apple as a "virtual track wheel. The larger, widescreen display will deliver an improved video viewing experience and herald the arrival of feature-length movie sales on the iTunes Music Store. Hope it’s out by the year end.
